TEaching Statement & philosophy
In my private music lessons, I am deeply committed to fostering an environment where each student’s individuality is honored. I believe that every student brings a unique set of experiences, perspectives, and talents to the table, and it is my responsibility to ensure that these differences are celebrated. I approach each lesson with a commitment to diversity and equity, ensuring that all students, regardless of background, have the opportunity and support to thrive.
Music is a powerful form of self-expression, and I strive to inspire passion in my students. In my teaching, I prioritize creating a space where students feel empowered to explore their personal voice through music. This requires cultivating an atmosphere of trust and openness, where mistakes are seen as a natural part of the learning process. My goal is to help students express their thoughts and emotions through their instrument, building confidence in their abilities to communicate musically.
Private lessons are an opportunity for deep, personalized learning. I focus on guiding students through a process of discovery, helping them to understand not only what they are playing but why it works. By encouraging students to retrace their steps in learning a piece, technique, or concept, I help them build the ability to recreate these skills independently. This reflective approach strengthens their understanding and equips them with the tools to tackle future challenges on their own.
Ultimately, my goal is to guide each student toward becoming an autonomous musician—someone who can confidently express themselves through music and continue to grow in their craft, both in and outside of our lessons. By fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment, I hope to instill in my students the lifelong joy and empowerment that comes from musical exploration and self-expression.
